Your Background

To be a good fit for the Marketing Project Manager opportunity, you will have:
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience in marketing, product development, branding or similar, preferably in consumer packaged goods.
  • Proven strong organizational and project management skills -- we're not looking for a traditional, structured project manager as much as a professional who knows what questions to ask in order to drive results.
  • Marketing/advertising agency experience could be helpful.
  • Business development skills and strategic thinking ability.
  • Solid analytical skills and the ability to analyze data/metrics to guide your approach.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
Just as important will be the following competencies and characteristics:
  • A can-do attitude -- you may not have direct experience in every area, but you're proactive about figuring it out.
  • The ability to manage multiple activities and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A proactive approach and strong follow-through habits.
  • A track record of success as a team player, and the ability to develop collaborative relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
You also will need to be willing and able to travel once or twice a year for meetings, trade shows, and customer/sales manager interaction.

Your Impact

Reporting to the Director of Footwear & Accessories Marketing, you will act as the general project manager for multiple brands living in the FDM Channel, mainly SofComfort and Airplus. This channel includes retailers in big box, home improvement, club and dollar stores.

To be clear, this role is not about highly structured processes, critical paths or Gantt charts -- bottom line, it is about what we call GSD -- Getting Stuff Done. You might use those tools, but things happen fast, and in many cases, you'll develop processes as you go.

You'll manage, lead and help execute projects from the beginning, making both strategic and hands-on contributions. A typical project will start with an ideated product, but you may also contribute to development. You'll work with cross-functional marketing teams, including Product Development (to get samples) and Creative & Graphic Design (for packaging), and partner with sales to ensure strong market positioning.

More specifically, you will:
  • Partner with cross-functional teams and manage key projects (including packaging, rebrands, product, etc.). You'll summarize, develop plans and execute said projects.
  • Collaborate with Product Development to guide consumer insights-driven product roadmap.
  • Synthesize consumer insights and teams with internal creative and digital teams to help direct packaging, creative and digital needs.
  • Partner with research agencies, once primary research is done, to clearly articulates research results and translate them into action for category growth.
  • Work with legal team on packaging regulations and substantiation of claims.
  • Work with Merchandising Manager to develop and execute brick & mortar merchandising from concept to implementation.

Pictured: We regularly sponsor employee teambuilding events and activities that promote a passion for our mission (above). Posing below is the champion team from a recent Global Summit Field Day. You don't have to be an athlete to participate -- you just need to like having fun.

Keys to Success

Like most great opportunities, this one comes with challenges. There always will be a lot going on, so you'll need to be highly organized and able to prioritize tasks. Your to-do list will change more than once each day. Flexibility will be essential, along with the willingness to break your own rules and blaze new paths.

Collaboration is the norm at Implus, but it doesn't just happen. You should be proactive about promoting it, including constantly seeking out feedback and input from stakeholders. Ideally, each stakeholder will have a strong sense of ownership, in part because they contributed to the decision-making process. You'll need to be as comfortable following someone else's lead as you are leading others. You won't find oversized egos here.

We understand that there will be a learning curve as you get to know our business model, brands, team and vendors. At the same time, you should make a point of getting up to speed as quickly as possible. If you’re the person we're looking for, You take pride in trying to figure things out on your own, but you also know when to ask for help.
