The Requirements

To be a strong fit for this Packaging Engineer opportunity, you will have:
  • 5+ years of packaging product design and development experience, including significant experience with retail package engineering (CPG). 
  • A bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Manufacturing, Engineering or other relevant field preferred, or the equivalent combination of education and experience Quick question for you - click here
  • Strong knowledge of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging materials (i.e. paper, chipboard, cardboard, blister packaging, etc.)
  • Solid project management skills to work with vendors; ability to push back as needed and appropriate
  • Knowledge of best practices and shipping requirements as pertinent to online and brick and mortar packaging requirements.
  • Experience driving a user experience, in relation to packaging, that delivers results and connects with consumers 
  • A strong network of packaging vendors
Your technical skills will include:
  • Basic understanding and ability with CAD software design tools

  • Knowledge of drafting and specification standards to create production-ready documentation is a strong plus
  • Knowledge of PDQ packaging design is a strong advantage
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Understanding of printing processes and techniques from pre-press to print completion

The Role

Opportunity Snapshot
Reporting to the Creative Director and Senior Director of Industrial Design, as Packaging Engineer, you will work with the creative and product development teams to create and deliver packaging that will highlight products and carry our marketing message to the shelf. In addition, you will leverage your strong project management skills to set up and communicate in-depth design specifications to packaging vendors at various plants, primarily overseas.

Your Mission
Daily, you will work on diverse projects, leveraging your knowledge of primary and secondary packaging requirements and manufacturing capabilities to work with creative and production to synthesize the best solutions. It will be important to understand each project's scope, how to organize the project and who you'll work with. Some projects are shorter, such as a simple chipboard package, while others are complex, such as unique packaging for a TriggerPoint foam roller product. At times you'll work independently, but you'll also work with your peers in a highly creative and fast-paced environment. Some of your essential responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting sales, marketing, and production in new and redone packaging development and design
  • Designing and modifying designs using computer technology

  • Sourcing and selecting auxiliary materials and packaging as needed for projects 
  • Interacting with vendors as needed for quality issue resolution
  • Providing engineering support as needed

  • Maintaining records for projects, programs, designs, systems and materials
